Disclaimer:
By using these packages you agree that the authors cannot be held responsible for any possible
damage or loss that may occur either to your Foxsat HDR or to the data held thereon.
The Custom Firmware rar archive contains everything necessary to set up the Humax Foxsat-HDR as a fully functioning Media and File Server.
There are some major changes and additions to the earlier v3.0 releases, so please read this document carefully before starting.
The file named 'FOXSAT-HDR_upgrade.hdf' is the firmware upgrade which provides the platform on which custom application software packages can then be installed. It also provides the means to start these custom applications automatically at boot time.
NOTE:
This firmware is based on Humax's v1.00.21 release and is a complete standalone replacement for it.
This means that a reflash with the latest Humax firmware before flashing with this one is NOT necessary.
It will upgrade any earlier version of installed firmware, either standard or modified, to v1.00.21 custom.
This release maintains the custom directory structure on the hd4 partition, as per the earlier versions. However, several applications in this latest release have dependencies on others in order to function correctly. This is all taken care of by the package management system, which also tracks which applications are installed, and what is available to be installed or upgraded. For this reason v4.x.x is NOT backwards compatible with any of the earlier releases.
By using this package you agree that the author cannot be held responsible for any possible damage that may occur to your Foxsat-HDR by installing it. Having said that, it is extremely unlikely, and in the event, a re-install of the Humax official firmware should put everything right.

Thanks to mogie for being the first to mod the Foxsat-HDR firmware. His initial firmware release, with FTP and Telnet services, provided the foundation on which everything else has been built. Also for his first generation Channel Editor, another great addition to the Foxsat-HDR.
And a thank-you to Duddits, and other members of the development team at the Humax iCord forum in Germany. Their 'MiniRootFS' has been a great source of inspiration and reference when putting the original package together.
And a really massive thank-you must go to af123, the sole author of the web interface and underlying applications and scripts which provide so much additional functionality on the Humax HD(R) Fox T2. He has kindly allowed us to use his original ideas and sources as the basis for the web interface and support applications you find released here in v4.0. Also, he is hosting the opkg repository for the Foxsat-HDR on his website, hummypkg.org.uk, so once again af123 thank you !
Another massive thank you for the continuing development and upgrades to the web interface provided by adrianf36.
Thanks to REPASSAC for his support with scripting, html validation, and beta testing.
Also thanks to Partridge for the epg.dat analysis and beta testing, and more recently the original research which led to the development of the 'display' utility which enables custom messages to be written to the front panel display.
Also deserving a credit is David500 for his work in preparing the documentation pages contained within the web interface.
Many thanks for your hard work guys. Much appreciated !
And finally, thanks to Humax, for the box.
Well, that's about it. I sincerely hope that this bundle makes your Foxsat-HDR experience more enjoyable.
My regards to all at AV Forums, (the main support site) hummy.tv, and Digital Spy.
And a special mention for my friends on "My Humax Forum".
The admins there are all names you will recognise from the old hummy.org.uk and are the people who made the old hummy.org.uk site what it was. Check it out!

This web interface has been ported from the interface developed by af123 for the Humax T2 Freeview HD(R) receiver.
A great deal of effort has been put into making the port as seamless as possible. However, compared with the T2, the Foxsat-HDR is a significantly less powerful piece of hardware and can, at times, struggle to process the large amount of information contained within the EPG data (over 32,000 entries on average).
You are strongly advised to utilise the Channel List feature to limit the amount of data being processed when viewing the EPG pages. This will result in much faster page load times.
Some example channel lists are provided with the default installation.
See the 'WebIf Channel Lists' and 'EPGs' sections for more details.
By using this package you agree that the author cannot be held responsible for any possible damage that may occur to your Foxsat-HDR by installing it. Having said that, it is extremely unlikely, and in the event, a re-install of the Humax official firmware should put everything right.

With over 180 Freesat channels, it is unlikely that you will want to view the EPG schedule for them all - not at the same time anyway! In addition, doing so will increase the rendering time for the EPG pages and provide a less satisfactory user experience.
The Channel List function allows you to create, delete and manage groups of channels for use within the EPG browsing functions. Simply check/uncheck the boxes as necessary:

To set the Channel List that will be used to filter all EPG pages, select the list of your choice from the 'Web Interface Settings' section on the 'Settings' page. If the 'Display Channel List Selector on EPG Screens' has been set you can also change the Channel List directly from the EPG pages.
Setting the Channel List to "None" will clear the filter and display all channels.
By default, a Channel List containing a number of the "main channels" is selected. You will need to configure your own channel lists as appropriate.
If the optional 'Remote Scheduling Plug-in' is installed the following will be displayed at the top of the page:

The pages 'EPG - Now/Next' and 'EPG - 7 day' allow the freesat EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) to be viewed and searched.
It is also possible to schedule recordings directly from these EPG pages.

A Transport Stream (TS) file contains elementary streams for the video, audio and subtitle tracks of a recording. Together, they are collectively known as a "Service" or "Program". When a transport stream is received from the broadcaster, it may contain several such "Programs", each with its own video, audio, and subtitle stream. This is known as a multiplex (MUX}. Programs contained within a MUX are identified by special packets embedded at regular intervals in the transport stream. These packets hold the Program Association Table (PAT) listing the Program IDentity numbers (PID) of each Program MUX'ed into the transport stream. When a recording is written to disk by the Foxsat HDR, only the streams of the selected Program are saved. The streams of all the other Programs are discarded. However, the HDR saves the PAT packets "as-is", and as a result they still contain several Program ID's which now reference non-existent services.
The HDR itself is able to ignore these anomolies, but when a DLNA server (e.g. TwonkyMedia) sends this stream to a client (e.g. a Smart TV) the client is not expecting to see these additional, invalid Program ID's, and refuses to play what it interprets as an unknown, or corrupt transport stream.
The "Convert Files" plug-in addresses this issue by rewriting all PAT packets in a recording with replacements containing only the one valid Program ID.
As well as the issue with invalid PAT packets there is an additional problem which affects audio, when streaming HD content. The client will invariably choose to play the Audio Description track instead of the main AC3 audio track, with no option on the client side to then select the correct one. This happens because of the way that the stream lists are ordered in another series of special packets called the Program Map Table (PMT). These tables list all of the the streams that make up a particular Program. i.e. video, audio, subtitles, etc. In the case of an HD recording, the AC3 audio track is listed after the Audio Description track. The HDR itself is smart enough to choose the correct track, but when streamed to another device the first audio track found in the PMT list is chosen by that device as the default.
The "Convert Files" plug-in addresses this issue also, by rewriting all PMT packets in an HD recording with replacements containing a re-ordered stream list in which the AC3 audio track precedes the Audio Description track.
The net result is a replacement copy of the recording that will still play correctly on the HDR, but which has much greater compatability for streaming to other devices, and with the correct audio stream set as the default. Having said that, there is no guarantee that streaming will be possible to your own particular player, only that it is now more likely to succeed.
By using this package you agree that the authors cannot be held responsible for any possible damage or loss that may occur either to your Foxsat HDR or to the data held thereon.
The Restart Now Plug-in provides the means to restart the HDR from the Web Interface via a button located in the 'Settings' page.
By using this package you agree that the author cannot be held responsible for any possible damage or loss that may occur either to your Foxsat HDR or to the data held thereon.
The Foxsat HDR is Busy
This will be displayed when there is an active recording or playback in progress. Restarting from the Web Interface is disabled.

The Foxsat HDR is Idle
This will be displayed when there is no active recording or playback in progress. Restarting from the Web Interface is enabled.
A popup will appear following a 'Restart Now' button click for the user to confirm the restart operation.

epg for Humax Foxsat-HDR is responsible for providing a SQLite database corresponding to the EPG of the box.
Newer versions of epg can also be used to copy EPG from Freesat channels to non-Freesat channels, eg from Freesat LCN 104 Channel 4 to non-Freesat Service ID 21200 Channel 4 HD.
By using this package you agree that the authors cannot be held responsible for any possible damage or loss that may occur either to your Foxsat-HDR or to the data held thereon.
By default, epg doesn't need any configuration. However, if you wish to be able to record from non-Freesat channels through Remote Scheduling Portal you need to ensure that the EPG is populated for those non-Freesat channels. You can configure epg to do that by copying the EPG events from the Freesat equivalent channel, eg from LCN 104 Channel 4 to Service ID 21200 Channel 4 HD.
The epg plug-in can be configured via the epg Plug-in Settings subsection of the Settings page of WebIf. The various settings are:
Here's an example EPG mapping configuration:

Entries are written to a log /opt/tmp/epg.log with details about how many EPG events were copied from Freesat to non-Freesat.
The log file can be viewed logged on to the box via Telnet/SSH. Optionally, you can install the log-viewer package in order to view the log files in WebIf.
The epg package runs automatically when the box has received new EPG, eg during the first boot after the Housekeeping boot or during the first boot after a session during which you manually entered the TV Guide on the box, triggering an update to the box's EPG.
